Guess I'll have to buy a coat now, huh? I swore that's something I would never, ever do. Gloves, yes, scarves, yes, coat, no.
Get a nice warm, cozy one, GBH. I gave all of my wool coats and ski jackets away when we moved here from Mass. and boy, am I sorry!!

The only good thing to come out of my philanthropie is that I get to go shopping for some new duds!!

My unsolicited advice: find the area you want first, then the neighborhood, then a house. You can always fix up a house, but you can't fix a neighborhood: the schools and crime are what they are. You don't want to send your daughter to a bad school and you don't want to be afraid to walk down your street. And bars on the windows suck the charm right out of that cute bungalow. So pick a few neighborhoods you love and wait for a bargain.

The TV Show "My Name Is Earl" reminds me so much of people I have known in the SW VA/East TN area. Too funny!!!

I cannot guarantee the "fitting in" part, Hik. That is a burden we all have to face!

But, you should have no trouble finding the cozy house you describe. So many folks are super conscious of the money they can save by updating their heating/cooling systems so that shouldn't be a problem. Older houses in the South seem to have fireplaces as their main heating source years ago.

You can probably find such a house in any area you choose. Is The Island an old part of town? Sounds interesting.

Did I mention I have no wool sweaters? Shall I pass the toboggan (is that even how you spell it?) and take up a collection?

I haven't seen snow in 16 years, and my idea of cold weather is a dip into the 50s. I am in for some rough sledding.

Yikes, we are going to need a bonfire and a marshmallow roast for goodbyehollywood. Head for your nearest Eddie Bauer and get yourself a couple of nice, warm wool sweaters - scarf - hat - mittens - sleeping bag -....

I would... but they just don't go with my flipflops. I'm afraid I would unseat Britney Spears as this week's Fashion Don't.

Nah, not possible...

Bonfire and marshmallow roast? I'll bring the S'mores ingredients. My parents sent me to summer camp for years. I know such things.
