In 1783, William Rowan brought his family to Kentucky. Their first few years were spent in Calhoun (on the Green River in NW Kentucky). It wasn't too long afterwards that the now adult brothers separated with Stephen staying in what is now western Ohio County and John moving to Bardstown where he prospered and built Federal Hill. Federal Hill is the official name of what we know call "My Old Kentucky Home". It is likely that during a visit to Bardstown my g-grandmother Sarah Rowan met my g-grandfather James Cox one of the first graduates along with his cousin & my namesake Orion N. Cox. A lot of history for both Kentucky and my family circulated around that old mansion.

Tomocox that is quite the family history you have. Very cool. I just adore My Old Kentucky Home. If I had gotten married in KY instead of AK thats where it would have been at. Planning a trip to take the hubby there when we come in for a visit in the next couple weeks.

It sure is amazing Josh, if I had my way I would be living in KY now. When we sold everything in Forida in 2006 I found a good deal on a small farm in Harrison County, near Cynthiana, Ky, but my wife didn't want to move back to Ky.... so here I sit on a mountain top in TN..lol.. I was born in TN near the KY/TN border and lived most of my 60 years in KY and FL. Most of my family is from KY and still live there, both of my children were born in Ky. Every time I hear the song My Old Kentucky Home I get a little home sick.

I read the Alaska forum a lot and been thinking about a Alaska vacation, you think an old hillbilly could survive a couple weeks up there without getting chewed on by the bears?

I enjoyed the video, Jim..I am also a reader of the alaska forum..The photo's are breathtaking..My h wants to book a cruise in the next year, but I have such terrible reservations with cruises..I would rather fly there..So I imagine I will win

Oh yeah, you guys would be awesom up here. Come on up. We need more Southerners up here! Beware of the iced tea though. Its not like your Mama makes. Basically brown water. ICK! I guess I have a love/hate relationship with Alaska. ALot of things up here drive me bonkers but it is incredibly beautiful. I hope yall decide to visit.
