Louisville comes in at No. 6 for worldwide travel destinations. Louisville comes in at No. 1 and Lexington at No. 3 for domestic travel destinations.
Airbnb is expecting over 300 million guest arrivals this year.
It's a double-edged sword. If I were a homeowner in one of those trending places, I would probably not like it so much if my neighbor's house had been converted to an AirBnb. Lots of AirBnB can play havoc in a local real estate market. It takes what might otherwise be a normal single family rental house out of the normal rental market and turns it into a hotel, in the middle of a residential area.
In the USA, most hotel prices have gone sky-high, even in second and third tier cities like Louisville and Lexington. Those high prices make AirBnB a better option than they might have been a few years ago. That means more people are converting their regular rentals into AirBnB and more people are booking those AirBnB now instead of hotel rooms. Doesn't necessarily mean there are that many more people visiting the places.
Of course now, people are finally free of the Covid travel hassles back in 2020-2022. Any tourist-related statistic is going to look a lot better for 2023 than in the prior 2 years.
Lots of attractive vacation destinations have bans on short-term rentals in areas zoned for residences. Could skew the stats a bit.
