I was thinking of more domestic travel and I looked this up. I had no idea the prices would be that high. It still looks cool but are there any ways to get this a bit cheaper?
My brother went a few years and watched from the infield. Said he's never seen so many people drunk and happy at the same time. Don't know the cost to get in the infield. Also, parking will cost you. A lot of the people near the Downs rent out their yards for parking. I've heard they ain't cheap.
Went to the breeders cup 3 years ago at churchill. my buddy and I had no tickets. We sat out front and asked folks who had extra tickets. scored clubhouse tixs the first day for like 25$. next day had regular tixs for the same.
Parking yes is a beach. we parked 15 blocks or so south and walked in. with what I lost on betting almost would have been better to not have gotten in. Kept betting pick threes and won a few but they all paid less than what I bet. Ha ha thats part of the action.
the derby im sure is crazier. Maybe more attending but breeders cup is pretty big too.
Anyway good luck and try to do it. its on my bucket list too.
P.S. this years breeders cup is at Keenland in Lexington Ky which is a real nice track also. If you can make that it is a very special event for horse racing and near Lexington are many famous horse breeding farms.
Just so happens that this breeders cup is two weeks from now.
We ride the bus in, I would never recommend driving there. We’ve done the infield before, but it’s like going to the world’s biggest backyard party.
you are correct, we'd go every year, and sit in the infield...we saw secretariat win....it was fun times...my cousin went to College in Kentucky, and was dating a lovely girl and her parents would put us up every year when we came in for the Derby, but yes, you are correct, it is definately a huge party on the infield and I don't believe at that time, they charged us to be in the infield, but to the OP, if your serious about going you should experience it at least one time....fun times...
I was there when Secretariat won. Still have my 1973 mint julep glass. It was so crowded an hour before the race you couldn't make it to the restrooms in the infield. Wasn't pretty but was a lot of fun when you're a kid.

LOL, yes, it was fun, and seeing Secretariat win was a bonus wasn't it...We were right at the finish line...I do remember one time, we were sitting on top of a roof of a storage shed in the infield which was an awesome seat, but don't remember where it was....
I wish I could remember my cousin's girlfriends parents names....they were really awesome people....
and didn't mind putting strangers up in their beautiful southern home...
Kentucky people are to me, the most patient, kindest people, extremely hospitable....funny and just down to earth kind souls

My sister took the bus, she had a lot of transfers and was very tired.
Walk in backwards and they’ll think you’re leaving…..
