Hello. I am continuing my search for a place to call home. I want to get out of Florida. I want to be a homeowner. I'm sick of renting and I can't really afford anything here without taking on a big mortgage. Which I refuse to do. I am self-employed and do work on peoples' houses (think landscaping type... those sort of businesses). I don't like huge mortgages. I would like to be around 100k for a little 2bed/1bath on 3-5 acres. A place that isn't extremely rural because I don't know what I'd do for work... plus I'm single and in my mid/late 20's and well... I don't want to get too lonely. A town of around a few K - 10k people max would be fine.

Not a liberal/not democrat. More free-spirited, less government the better.

An area that has good hunting, good fishing, good outdoor activities. Not a TON of snow. I've lived where it's snowed for 5-6 months out of the year and I don't want to relive that ever again. Plus IDK what I'd do for work...

I heard of a town called Mayfield in western Kentucky.

I put your criteria in a realtor site and found precisely NINE houses in Kentucky that have that much land for $100,000 or less; none of them were near any decent sized city, none. Your wants exceed the budget.

Cowpat, I'm in Mayfield. We're just starting to rebuild after the Dec. 10 tornado that wiped out downtown. I checked out realtor.com and put Mayfield, Murray, and Paducah in the search with what you're looking for and couldn't find anything. Out of curiosity I took the land part out of the search and found this place. It's about 8 miles south of Mayfield. But it's on a main highway.

Most people around here, for a chance to go out to eat or major shopping, go to Murray, home of Murray State University, or Paducah. They're both about 20 miles away. Good hunting around here for deer, rabbit, squirrel, and probably a few other critters. Plenty of fishing around. Paducah is on the Ohio River and Kentucky Lake, the largest man made lake east of the Mississippi River (160,000+ acres) has good fishing both above and below Kentucky Dam. The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, between Ky. Lake and Lake Barkley, has hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, camping, hunting, fishing. I love fishing on Ky. Lake, but I'm a bank fisherman. I joke that my main problem is the fish have heard too much about social distancing and won't get within 6 feet of my hook.

I think the ability to buy a small home on 2-3 acres for $100,000 or less almost anywhere in KY is a thing of the past or usually has a catch like being extremely remote, or the house is dilapidated and unlivable in current condition so you are basically just paying for the land.

A lot of people from Florida are moving to Louisville, Kentucky! There's a Latino bar nightclub that's a big hit with the Latin people moving in Louisville.
