Hi!
Our family is transferring to western Kentucky and trying to research the area from afar. We have found some gorgeous acreages near Mayfield Ky. When you google Mayfield though, it shows Mayfield as the #1 most dangerous places to live in Kentucky (from FBI crime numbers). It’s hard to believe a small town could be so dangerous. Has something changed there in the past couple years? Have you seen an increase in crime?

Pepper, all I can say is I was born and raised in Mayfield, moved away a couple years after high school and moved back 40 years later to take care of my dad. He passed away 4 1/2 years ago but we don't see any reason to move away again. We're hear to stay. I wouldn't hesitate walking to town or just about anywhere else around town. Of course, like any other town, Mayfield has its bad neighborhoods and does have crime, but I can't see it as the most dangerous.

I always joke that the best thing to come out of Mayfield is US 45. lol But I like it here.

Make sure to stop by and see the Wooldridge Monuments.

I don't know anything about Mayfield but, I can assure you it ain't the #1 most dangerous place to live in Kentucky.

I'll give that lofty position to Louisville.

Pepper, I emailed the Chief of Police for Mayfield and asked him about the crime rate and copied and pasted what you said about the FBI. His response was,"The article you reference is, “click bait” for advertising. It began circulation about 18 months ago or so. Ironically, within a month of that click bait, Mayfield / Graves County was recognized as a Top 50 Micropolitan area in America."

City-Data Mayfield KY page shows Mayfield’s crime index as 402 for 2019. Maybe the Police Chief needs to get in touch with whoever provides the statistics to City-Data?
