I never heard of this until a few years ago, when I came across a Wikipedia article.

I remember it.
I was very young, just a teenager, but I remember.
Defective electrical wiring in the Zebra Room started the fire.
But they were seated over capacity, and tables blocked the way out, making it hard to escape.
And there was no smoke/fire alarm. The staff was never trained in what to do in a fire or emergency situation.
I believe 165 people died. Nightmarish scenario.

That and The Who concert are two events I shall never forget - both the result of human error. I knew people related to people who died in both.

A neighbor of my parents and her boyfriend died in the fire. Left 2 daughters behind, one in her late teens

I worked with a guy back in the late 90s, both his parents were killed there, he was very young when they died, his grandparents raised him.

I remember it since I was a teenager when it happened, John Davidson was performing there and it was overcrowded.
