All over, really. But this was written specifically about Kentucky right now. I'm not sure - is it slower and worse than in most other areas?

Kentucky Hurting While Awaiting Federal Pandemic Aid
In Perry County, Ky., the local government is cutting back on garbage pickup. Magoffin County is laying off public safety workers. And in Floyd County, where food pantries are reporting that demand has tripled over the past month, officials are trying to figure out how to avoid cuts to a program distributing food to families.
“A lot of these kids, this is the only meal they get in a day.”

Which is but one of the reason those kids need to be back in school.

Children on the free meal program in Fayette County Schools are still receiving free meals, by delivery and/or pick-up. If other counties' schools normally provide free in-school meals, why can they not emulate Fayette County Schools, and make those meals still available even though in-person schooling is not yet underway?

Sigh..... Fayette County is a suburban community. There are public buses, people are compacted together, and there are auxiliary resources outside of the school system. It is the “pick-up” part that causes the issues in most of these uber poor counties and they have neither the resources nor the time to personally deliver meals to kids living in the middle of nowhere. The kids in these communities have to have a parent with the wherewithal to get to the pick up place and/or the desire to even make an effort. On top of that, other safety net resources simply do not exist in their communities. Churches and other volunteers, including yours truly, have tried to pick up the slack but it’s like putting a bandaid on a head wound.

There is a reason why most of these school systems opened as soon as they could as opposed to Fayette and Jefferson County that are still balking on opening, even for their kids on IEPs. Every school district around here will be starting back next week, meanwhile Louisville is discussing maybe they just might, if every thing is just right, return in February.

And.... you really don’t know how many kids in need aren’t being served. You only know Fayette County is handing out food.
