What the........?

Kentucky is home to one of the most impoverished, medically underserved regions in the nation and that region is not in Jefferson County, Fayette County, Northern Kentucky, Hardin County, Christian County or the western tip, which combined is where 85+% of all Kentucky’s black population live. No, instead that region is Eastern Kentucky, where it would be nice if he’d pledge to provide resources to get any kind of access to medical care.

How does he justify pledging such a significant portion of the state resources to only be eligible for 8.5% of the state’s population? This can not even be legal.
THATS RACIAL DISCRIMINATION AND BLACK SUPREMACY TO ITS BEST ! If blacks have that right, then the native Americans from Seminoles to Navajos have the absolute right to have medical assistance for FREE ! Why not the whites will claim also their right to have free health care as the blacks are claiming just because they are blacks ????? Its is because we all are leaving under the fear of the racial blackmail propelled always by the left for not to be accused tof racism ??? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !

Your reaction is precisely the kind of backfire I was talking about in my previous post.

Of course this kind of decision is going to fuel anti-black sentiment among non-blacks.

A number of blacks already receive some form of free or subsidized healthcare due to being low income. It's rather insulting to insinuate that ALL black people cannot afford their own healthcare and need government healthcare, which has shown to be far inferior to private insurance. The VA and government funded hospitals which already serve a good group of minorities do not provide the best care.

You'll just end up giving more blacks substandard care. Also, who's going to pay for this? Kentucky does not have the funds or infrastructure to support this. Raise taxes to cover it? Trouble is, wages are relatively low in this part of the country. Good luck bringing any of this to fruition.

I'm not blaming you, Angel.
There is a lot of truth in what you are saying.

I think that a majority of blacks are being manipulated by the Democratic party. I don't believe for a second that the Democratic leaders actually care about or even just respect the average black American.

This decision is especially shocking in a state like Kentucky. As Oldhag1 explained very well above, Ky has many really poor rural whites that barely have access to any kind of healthcare at all.

New member today because of this post. This is one of the best threads I have read on a topic where discussion is more often short on actual facts and heavy on opinion and rehearsed talking points. Thank you for the intelligent, honest, and informative discussion.

And yet they will crawl over broken glass in every election to vote for Mitch McConnell and others who will make sure they have no access to healthcare.

How is Mitch McConnell preventing health clinics from being built? Or stopping doctors or even nurses from moving near these people? I know you don’t get it, but lack of medical care happens for reasons other than lack of insurance. These people have either Medicaid or expanded Medicaid, therefore theoretically they have free or practically free medical care. The problem is there is no medical care at all within a reasonable distance. You can’t purchase, no matter the cost you are willing to pay, that which does not exist.

I read the article. It sounds like this plan is very much still being configured but I read that if private insurance is not available for a black resident, Medicaid or Medicare would be extended to them. What’s wrong with that if they qualify and have a need? I would assume that the plan would also tap an extension of ACA or other private options to give more choices.

I’m just not seeing the need for outrage since Beshear’s father was responsible for helping to get insurance access to Eastern KY which is overwhelmingly white and, frankly, needed it.

That’s great, provided it applies to all Kentucky residents in the same circumstances. I spent too many years fighting people who thought skin color was a way to judge the worthiness of someone to be okay with that criteria making a come back - ever.

Third, did you blow right past the part where there are places in Kentucky that accessing medical care is not possible, whether you have the money to pay for it or not, because it simply does not exist in a one to two hour driving distance? There is no public transportation and many who live in those truly impoverished areas do not have the non-medical resources (i.e. gas money, a reliable vehicle, or someone available with a valid driver’s license) to just get to a doctor or clinic for routine care, let alone extra testing or specialists. In other words, there are parts of this state where for the average resident the volunteer fire department is their medical care. Even the wealthiest people in the area have to hope Larry Joe’s yearly first aid/CPR class is good enough to help them survive the ambulance trip to Pikeville, Ashland, Lexington, or Knoxville in an emergency.

So yes, I am pissed that the governor of this state wants to use our limited resources to provide universal care for select residents, based on something as arbitrary as the color of their skin, when there are residents who have access to NO care at all. Priorities, my friend, priorities and when it comes to taxpayer resources I do not base on my priorities on who looks most like me but rather on who is in the most desperate need.
I’ve watched multiple stories on Kentucky and the lack of medical care and medical busses that go around and people line up. It’s a very sad situation.
