I am thinking of working in Paducah but do not want to live there. Can anyone tell me about Benton and how far is it from Paducah?

I have family that lives in the Kuttawa....Eddyville...Paducah area.... Though I have never been to Benton itself in Marshall county....it would be about 30 miles to Paducah....via interstate 24 and the Julian Carroll Parkway. Benton is near the Land Between the Lakes region which has lots of fishing, hunting, etc... Benton is pretty small and in dry county. But...never been to Benton before so would not know much else. Why not Paducah? It has restaurants and shopping...more so that you would think from its population.

I live in Cadiz which is about 1 1/2 hrs from Paducah. Benton would be about 30 min from Paducah. I have been traveling to Paducah for 18 years to take advantage of their restaurants and stores. Paducah is nice for restaurants, shopping and the arts center but I love a smaller town for living. There is also Murray, which is a college town which is about 1 hr from Paducah. Depends on what you are looking for.
Interstate 24 and US68 in Cadiz gives us the advantage to get to a lot of different places.

Thank you for your reply. I am from Southern Illinois and moved down to Florida for about 5 years now. I really miss the seasons and would like to move back up North. I grew up on a farm and was looking to buying a hobby farm when I move up there. I am in Law enforcement and talked to Paducah police department and they said that you don't have to live in the county to work there. I was looking at Benton because it looks like a small town that is close to Paducah.

Mayfield is about 20 mins south of Paducah. My grandfather just moved there 2 years ago from IL. not to bad, and houses are dirt cheap. The houses there for $40,000 would be about $350k here in Va. Beach, VA. There is a wal-mart and a couple of sit down resturaunts, and all of the fast food. Paducah has the mall, and more resturaunts.

Smile Benton Native

I have lived in Benton all my life, and can't imagine living any place else.
It it a small town, but 20 minutes from Paducah, with all the shopping you will probably ever need, 20 minutes from Murray State University in Murray, rated one of the safest college campuses in the country, 20 minutes from Kentucky Lake and Land Between the Lakes recreational area, and 2 hours from Nashville, TN if you just have to have a big city fix!
You probably will not have trouble finding a small farm, as most of the county is quite rural, and we experience all four seasons of weather!
We have a great school system (6 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, one high school), with one of the nicest HS gymnasiums you will ever see, rivaling some college gyms.
We have super Wal-Mart, every kind of resturant from Chinese to Mexican, and all the fast food in between.
The people here are very community minded, the city is clean, and modern.
Check out www.marshallcounty.net for additional info.

Default I am moving to Paducah or Southern IL in 2 weeks

I'll be moving to Puducah in 2 weeks due to a Job promotion, I'll actually be working in IL in the Metropolis area. I'm moving from Fort Worth, TX and I'm desperately looking for a house to rent. I need a 3 or 4 (prefer 4 bed room) house, I'm a single father raising 4 daughters ages 10 to 16...I can't find anything online and I'm starting to panic a little, I don't want to me and my children to end up homeless. Are there houses for rent in that area? Does anyone have a name and number of a local realtor or property manager that may be able to help me out?

Thanks

That's one thing I don't like about the Paducah Sun newspaper. Besides the fact that you have to subscribe to read it online, they don't put their classifieds on there. Just tried googling Paducah apartments and every site mentioned said they didn't have anything. Checking realtors would probably be your best bet.
If you're a sports fan, on your way out of town listen to my cousin, Randy Galloway, one time for me. lol I listen to him every now and then online.
