Love this park, sad to see this happen. We went there about a month ago and it was busier with locals than I have seen it when tourism was running full speed. Not sure how they are going to solve this but the disrespect to the park and its lands is very sad.

The closure of the park exposes a problem Hawaii doesn't like to acknowledge - it isn't the tourists trashing the beaches and parks, it is the locals - and I've seen it on every island.

Some locals are a problem for sure, but it seems more of an issue of enforcement, and how locals know that nobody is enforcing the rules so why follow them. The 1000 people camping when only 70 spots are available is a perfect example, locals know that nobody is checking those reservations so why bother.

I see it on Maui at the beaches, public parks, basketball courts, and along the highways. Trash everywhere even when trashcans are just steps away. Pretty hard to point the finger at tourists when they aren't here!

Another eyesore is the huge number of trashed cars dumped along the highways. Many die while enroute to somewhere and are abandoned. Day two, the wheels are gone. Day 3, they are stripped and the windows are knocked out. Often by day 4 they have been torched and then sit there for months.

Some are hauled at night to public roadways, then dumped. We often wonder why they aren't dumped somewhere not visible? Yesterday, I noticed two more have been added to the collection North of Honolua Bay.

Yeah. I can see why. They probably closed it down because they didn't want anyone more than 10 people to a group and mingling also with other people 5 or 10 to a group. Pandemic. I'm not sure why, it seems Kaua'i's tier 4 plan doesn't take into account big beaches. Maybe it is because few people go there or a lot or just they can visit some where else and not too much people will be at the beach anyway. Nice beach area. Picnic area. Several times. Not really a Polihale beach fan. But very much secluded. It's no wonder why this beach hasn't turned into a nudist camp. So secluded.
