Hello! I have been a resident of Rankin county for about 9 years now. I moved up here for school and decided to stay because I love the area. I have been housing hunting and I found a house I love that fits my range, however, it is located in the South Jackson area, specifically the Willowood (Will-O-Wood) subdivision. Is this a safe location? I have always heard jokes about South Jackson and have always stayed clear of the area, but the neighborhood seems nice and quiet. And it's close to Byram and Clinton, which are okay areas. What do you think?

Before the suburbanites & granny graham take you down Horrorville stories, ask a local who's currently living there of the ins & outs of the neighborhood.

Good advice here, you are going to have to check it out for yourself. I know several people who live in Jackson and enjoy it. You already know the issues and challenges, so there shouldn't be any surprises.

Sharif is correct. Talk to people who live there. I have never lived there so I wouldn't know what it's like.

IN GENERAL, you likely aren't going to get much appreciation from houses in that area, i.e. the values aren't going up. If you want to live for a while, then rent, you may be OK. But generally that area is not seeing any real growth. Its heyday ended in the 90s. In general, if you are going to be in Jackson, South Jackson is not where you want to be.

If you need to live out that way for work, I recommend getting out of Jackson city limits.
