[2.267] O you who believe! Spend (benevolently) of the good things that you earn and or what We have brought forth for you out of the earth, and do not aim at what is bad that you may spend (in alms) of it, while you would not take it yourselves unless you have its price lowered, and know that Allah is Self-sufficient, Praiseworthy.

Giving in charity for the poor and needy is a good deed, and a major part of Islam.

[17.26] And give to the near of kin his due and (to) the needy and the wayfarer, and do not squander wastefully.

Charitable acts begin at home with your next of kin. Then your near relatives, needy people and the travellers in need. It is a good deed to share part of our wealth with such people rather than waste it without doing any good deed with it. Giving in charity is part of humanity and very much part of Islam.

[2.273] (Alms are) for the poor who are confined in the way of Allah-- they cannot go about in the land; the ignorant man thinks them to be rich on account of (their) abstaining (from begging); you can recognise them by their mark; they do not beg from men importunately; and whatever good thing you spend (to help them), surely Allah knows it.

Neither the beggars are all poor nor the non-beggars are all rich/well off. Some poor ones do not like begging. It's up to us to see in our communities as to who is needy and who is not. There are often enough signs for us to realize who is in need of our help.

[2.261] The parable of those who spend their property in the way of Allah is as the parable of a grain growing seven ears (with) a hundred grains in every ear; and Allah multiplies for whom He pleases; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.

[2.262]
(As for) those who spend their property in the way of Allah, then do not follow up what they have spent with reproach or injury, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve.

[2.263] Kind speech and forgiveness is better than charity followed by injury; and Allah is Self-sufficient, Forbearing.

It is better to just say something nice to someone or forgive someone for any wrong done to you than give someone as charity and then keep reminding him for the favor done or expect something back from that person in exchange. Charity should be forgotten once given by you. It should be given for humanity sake only.

Even though we often say that the charity/alms are for Allah's sake, Allah is not in need of our charities. We do it for humanity sake or for the sake of life on earth.

[2.264] O you who believe! Do not make your charity worthless by reproach and injury, like him who spends his property to be seen of men and does not believe in Allah and the last day; so his parable is as the parable of a smooth rock with earth upon it, then a heavy rain falls upon it, so it leaves it bare; they shall not be able to gain anything of what they have earned; and Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.

[2.265] And the parable of those who spend their property to seek the Will of Allah and for the certainty of their souls is as the parable of a garden on an elevated ground, upon which heavy rain falls so it brings forth its fruit twofold but if heavy rain does not fall upon it, then light rain (is sufficient); and Allah sees what you do.

Allah (SWT) is well aware of peoples' intentions and their purpose behind them giving in charity whether to be seen of men, status in the sight of people, or to help humanity as Allah Wills us to do for the peace, security and tranquility of our souls.

[7.42] And (as for) those who believe and do good deeds - We do not impose on any soul a duty except to the extent of its ability - they are the dwellers of the garden; in it they shall abide.

In Islam, it is made clear through the Qur'an that people are expected do good deeds such as helping others only according to the ability and the means at their disposal. Nobody is expected to do more than that. Allah (SWT) is well aware of what each one of us can and can't do. We will be judged on only what we can do (according to our ability).

[2.168] O people! Eat the lawful and good things out of what is in the earth, and do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan; Surely he is your open enemy.

Following the footsteps of the Shaitan is disobeying Allah and not being grateful for Allah's favors upon us.

[2.152] Therefore remember Me, I will remember you, and be thankful to Me, and do not be ungrateful to Me.

[17.25] Your Lord knows best what is in yourselves; if you are righteous, then He is surely Forgiving to those who turn (to Him) frequently.

Allah (SWT) is aware of each person whether he is righteous or not. Righteous ones are forgiven for their faults as they often turn to their Lord.

[17.26] And give to the near of kin his due and (to) the needy and the wayfarer, and do not squander wastefully.

It is better to make the best use of what we have spare of our own needs by giving it to close relatives in need, other needy people and travellers in need. Squandering it wastefully does not help the humanity, and is greatly discouraged in Islam (through the Qur’an).

[17.27] Surely the squanderers/spendthrifts are (like) brothers of the Shaitans and the Shaitan is ever ungrateful to his Lord.

Spendthrifts are likened to the brothers of ungrateful Shaitans.
A middle way is best when giving in charity or when spending our wealth. Only then not only our own needs can be met but others can be helped too.

[17.29] And do not make your hand to be shackled to your neck nor stretch it forth to the utmost (limit) of its stretching forth, lest you should (afterwards) sit down blamed, stripped off.
