I've noted that parts of Indiana are quite windy almost on a daily basis. Wondering if anyone has tried installing a small personal wind turbine and power generator on their property? Noted some that have small 4 foot blades and can easily work in a backyard and they can generate up to 500 watts of power daily. Might be a good way to supplement solar power at least on a limited basis.

I stayed several winters in a off-grid community in Mexico.

Solar was fine, but the community banned wind turbines. They make a god awful noise when running. If your deaf, it is an option.

The advantage is that they generate more power than solar and they generate at night. The disadvantage, is they can ruin the batteries by overcharging. You have to have a shunt to avoid doing that.

And, of course, you have to be deaf.

A windmill 9 or 10 feet across is really big for a back yard.

I was just curious. Noting how much wind is blowing in many areas of the state, I am not surprised to see a few small windmills in the backyards of some home owners.

Indirectly related note. While driving near Muncie today I saw numerous signs in yards or on farms saying "No to Solar Power". Anyone know what is up with that? Do people in this region have an issue with a private business or owner of a property utilizing solar power or for that matter, something that is perfectly legal and desirable on a property by the owner? At least solar while unsightly in some cases, does not create any noise or harm communities or neighborhoods or create a hazard of any sort. At least none that I know of. Seems to me it is up to a business or owner of a property to decide what they will and won't do with their property as long as it is legal. Don't understand this mind set at all.

We have a solar project proposed in our area.

The project will strip 5000 acres of topsoil from grazing land.

The environmental community and THEIR Governor in Washington state are all behind the project. The Governor will use his authority under the Growth Management Act (passed to protect the environment, from development oriented counties) to OVERRIDE the local zoning banning Industrial Solar and Wind Areas in the county.

The environmental community is destroying the planet one acre at a time.

OK. That I understand. Wiping out more important farming land for something of this nature is foolish to say the least especially when food sources are dwindling around our nation and the globe.
