The $40,000 is alot of money but just a drop in the bucket compared to lots in Tipton Lakes that are anywhere from $75,000 - $120,000

I know exactly what you are talking about when you say it's slow and peaceful and you don't just "run into town". That's my life right now. I do love being out here but it's really difficult to get the kids to school and back and run them back into town every night for after school activities too.

I will let you know when we come back. What are the ages of your kids? Mine are 10-boy, 7-girl, 3-girl.
aw man! move to my neighborhood! come look at my neighbors house! my kids are around those ages!

Domegirl-
Do you live in Tipton Park? I know you are on the North side of town but don't remember where. Is the listing you hyperlinked your neighbor's house? Which school disctrict is it in? I am very involved at school too and would like the kids to be in a school that I can get to know the staff well. Even if we aren't neighbors I'm sure the kids would be greatful to have someone thier age to show them around.

Ok, before I launch in ... melissa, in case you haven't figgered it out ... Columbus is a SMALL TOWN!!! No matter where you live, you'll have these, what I call "only in columbus" moments. Ask Plaidmom how she outed me!

No, that listing isn't my neighbors house ... I'll send that one privately. The house I sent you is across the road, less than a mile away. I run by there all the time, briefly knew the people who used to live there (so I know all the updates they did!).

That house, and mine are in the Parkside district. With 3 kids in the school ... I think the principal and office staff are sick of me by now. I'm there pretty much every day. I help in the classrooms, do book clubs, heck, I shelve books and assist with various extra curricular things like the running clubs, the jump rope club, lego club ... there are ample opportunities to get involved. We have a very active PTO. But the best part is that I never ever ever ever ... even in the dead of winter ... drive to school. I bike and walk there. Here's a little something:

UNBELIEVABLE! And we have at least two kids of the same age! Are there lots for sale in your development? It looked like there were. How fun I'm excited!

My two oldest were on a USA swim team last year and we plan to keep it up. It was 5 nights/week 1 1/2hr practice. With the 1/2hr. drive one way there my 2 year old and I always stayed for the entire practice. The entire night was consumed. Not to mention my two year old was a grumper by the time we got home! My intensions were to live closer so I could just drop them off and go home and make dinner. So with living out there I would really have to think twice about having that life style all over again. I guess my husband would be able to pitch in when he's not traveling. He would only be less than 10 minutes away. Before he started working out of Columbus his job was over 1hr. away from swim team Him helping out was never an option! Something to think about.

I smell a CARPOOL!!!! I have 3 in the club now (Donner Swim Club just received their level 1 membership last year from USA Swimming). In fact, tonight is the big banquet.

Oh .. and it's less than 10 minutes to get there when it's at North HS for short course ... add another 3 minutes when they swim at Donner Park for long course ...

we'll be waiting!

There are a lot of corporate relocations this time of year especially with Cummins and more Toledo people moving in. My neighbors started new jobs.

Didn't our meeting involve a bicycle as well?

My two cents (as an "older mom"-I'm an empty-nester): your kids are at the ages where their involvement in sports and activities is only going to increase, not decrease. I do agree it's smart, at this stage in your life, to think long and hard about "country" vs. "city" living.

I'm going to advocate being a bit selfish here, and really thinking about your needs and being strong about communicating those needs to DH (yes he can come kick me in the shins when you guys get here ).

I've seen this scenario time and time again: girlfriends with young kiddos getting dragged out to the country by their husbands. Just what is it with guys and their Marlboro Man fantasy??? It's great for the hubby, especially if he travels a lot for work. He has the ideal, bucolic country retreat to come home to on the weekends.

She on the other hand, lives her life in the car. Driving back and forth all day, surviving on fast food and Starbucks. And heaven forbid if she forgets the milk or the TP at the grocery store!

Real estate is still pretty cheap here. If I had a DH who absolutely, positively had to have his dirt bikes and his four-wheelers and a fishin' pond, I'd say , "Great! let's buy an affordable place within walking distance of the kids' school and then start looking for weekend property out in Brown County".

That's so ironic you said that! Living in the city and buying property in the country is exactly what my husband mentioned! If his hands were forced he would have to have some property so he could have his toys and a shop to tinker in. Not exactly sure why he's not home much even when he worked out of Toledo! The best one is....."I don't understnad why you can't get the kids into bed by 8:30". It doesn't even work out on paper to get the kids to bed by 9:30!

Your right about constant running. That was my stipulation upon finding out we were moving. I HAD TO live closer to town! So far we have looked quite a bit everywhere and haven't found that happy medium yet. Lets hope it's out there before we move! Thanks for the input you read my mind!

Plaidmom- that house on California would be PERFECT for them if they get in to swimming again- so close to both North and Donner! You are one smart cookie!

MW- I was just thinking about you today as I drove by North High School (where ALL the good swimmers attend!) and I was thinking that someone was going to have to give up something- you can't both be 10 min from work/school AND have a country house....it just ain't gonna work. (that's Hoosier-speak....you're gonna have to get used to that- and also, sentences beginning with "I seen..." **shudders**) Anyway, I was glad to see that plaidmom voiced what I was already thinking! The only thing I see wrong with the Calif St house, is that it's in Schmitt Elem District, which has a Great Schools Rating of 4. I'm not sure how reliable those ratings are, but I have teacher friends who say it doesn't really matter how the school is "rated", what matters most is how much support the child gets at home, both personally and academically. If the rating is still bothersome to you, I would ask a Relator to show you homes in Parkside district (by Domergurl!) There are LOTS of nice houses there. Hubby will have a 20-25 min drive to work, and CNHS will be about 10 min away.

So, I guess I'm giving you up......no new neighbor for me! sniff, sniff
