Possibly relocating to the Evansville Indiana area. I would be appreciative of any thoughts on public schools with an excellent special education reputation.

Also - question - what determines school attendance in Indiana? (IE- in MN the districts are open enrollment, but in TX it is based on address.) This makes a huge difference in housing.

Commute would be from downtown Evansville, but we are interested in residing in safe, clean, suburbs with a major family friendly / kid-centric emphasis. Suggestions welcome. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Your address determines your default school in most cases. EVSC has some form of open enrollment, but not having lived there in some time I don't know the specifics. Newburgh would be Evansville's stereotypical suburb, so too would some areas in Vanderburgh County just outside the city limits. Evansville itself has some family friendly areas.

What area?

Keep in mind.......I am not really a fan of the suburbs. If you are asking about Newburgh as a kid friendly place, it is as kid friendly as any other suburb would be. I have family in Newburgh, and it is fine if that is what you like. Old town Newburgh is a nice little area on the river, and the rest is the sprawling low density suburbia you would find anywhere else on up to Hwy 62.
