We are considering a few different options for transfers and one is in LaPorte.
I wasn't exactly impressed with some of the 'hoods in Laporte (when google mapping street levels of the city) along with some of the school ratings.
I am pretty fussy when it comes to where I live, but I am also looking for something affordable, with decent school ratings, and CLEAN (no ghetto
)
Even Michigan City seemed to be "run down" to me, unless I am not looking in the right areas.
Are there any good outskirts in this area I should look at consider? Appreciate any input!!

There are plenty of suburban area style homes that are between the cities of Michigan City and LaPorte. I would highly suggest looking into those.
