I was wondering about this place: Sandoval, Illinois, because yesterday i was watching the news and i saw that it said Sandoval, it was surprising seeing it because it happens to be my last name, so it kind of hit me, and i wanted to know if anyone whos reading this knows why this place was named that way or the city's history or something?

Beforehand, thanks...
It would be very awesome if you would respond to my e-mail: hottchapin@hotmail.com

Thank you again.

I'm sorry I can't help you with history. I have been through Sandoval and it is a tiny town.

Here's the Library site. You might be able to call them and see if they can round up any information.

Here is what Wikipedia had to say:

"Sandoval is located at the junction of US Highways 50 and 51. At the time the US Highways were numbered, this was the meeting point of the central north/south route with the central east/west route, an equal number of highways being numbered to the north, south, east and west.

US Highway 50 is an extension of the Mason-Dixon line that divided the North from "Dixie".

Sandoval was the population center of the United States for a considerable portion of the 20th Century.

Sandoval's central location in the United States was recognized early on. The town was originally platted as a replacement for Washington, D.C., with space reserved for the White House and other branches of government."

I only know it because my dad has golfed there!

Those are some interesting facts in the Wikipedia article.

Default Sandoval History

My grandparents Nell and C. E. Crawford lived in Sandoval from the 1930s to the 1960s, moving there from nearby Olney. My grandfather was the first principal of the high school and facilitated its construction during the depression. My Grandmother was a teacher there and my mother and aunts attended in the 1930s. The old high school is made with poured concrete, which I understand was an unusual construction method.

During the depression, my grandparents provided meals for out of work folks or anyone who showed up and needed to eat. That’s the kind of people they were.
