I thinking to move to Canton IL from Europe.
I know I need to find a job before but I kno this can be complicated if you are not in a place where you want to be...
I am sad a little because thats very important for me.
Is somebody here who could help me to find a legal job in Canton IL or Peoria IL? Or just somewhere close to Canton???

Thank you for all answers the positive and negative too!

Lovisa

Of all the places on Earth one could move to from Europe, why Canton IL? Did you put a map of the U.S. on your wall and throw a dart at it or something?

Are you skilled in anything? Or are you looking for entry level employment?

I don't know if they'll be able to help you settle in Canton, but there are groups in Chicago that help Polish immigrants get settled. They can at least help you with the details of what it takes to get a more permanent visa.

What is "shoping school" ?

You are in quite a perplexing situation, I don't know many people from Europe looking to get an entry level job in a small Illinois town. Never heard of Shoping School, but if you really must come then just grab your passport and come on over. You can probably meet with someone at Customs & Immigration, to work something out our give you info for finding jobs. I'd imagine they have one at Peoria Regional Airport(PIA), and you already have a VISA, so they might be able to do something.

Here are some Customs offices in Peoria:

Peoria Airport 5701 W Smithville Rd # 700
Bartonville, IL 61607
Phone Number: (309) 671-7047‎

Peoria Downtown 706 SW Commercial Aly
Peoria, IL 61602
Phone Number: (309) 673-8793‎

I have no idea what they might be able to do, but if there is anyone in the Peoria area it is most likley them.

Yeah, the "small town" thing might be a problem. I suspect a lot of the Poles that are here in Chicago aren't exactly here legally, but they are numerous enough to be a self-contained community so you could blend in and find work off the books. But you'll have to do it the straight-and-narrow way if you want to settle in Canton or even in Peoria. Even so, I'd still look into contacting some Polish groups in Chicago, or maybe even the Polish consulate here, for answers about how to get a more long-term visa.
