Okay, so not the comment or question most of you are expecting.....

I actually have a serious question. If you already own one (i.e. grandfathered in), where or how are you supposed to register it?

I'm pretty sure the law is on hold due to all the court cases but you can always check with the Illinois State Police.

And if anyone knows where I can get a Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 Watt Range ( as well as the reference), please let me know!

Don't be surprised if part of the process requires you to surrender the weapon to some authority when filing your application, and only getting the weapon back after you've been reviewed and approved. (fairly common trick I've seen used in other jurisdictions)

Registration precedes confiscation.

By the time the deadline to register arrives, the question will be "What weapons ban?"

Well here's the thing. I don't have an AR. I simply have a pistol with a 18 rd magazine. So am I going to have to register a magazine with no serial number? The magazine is apparently the only thing that is banned, not the pistol.

Handgun magazines over 15 rounds do not have to be registered. They are banned from sale but not from possession. However, there are limits on where and how you can use or transport them.

From what I know, they're actually to be banned from possession, which means owners are to either sell them to out-of-state buyers, destroy them, or hand them in. In all 3 cases this is total bs, has already been challenged, and will not stand. So there ya go.

That does not appear to be correct per the legislative language. Check with your attorney if concerned.

Pre-ban hand gun magazines holding more than 15 rounds owned by people authorized to own them before the effective date of the new restrictions........ "shall possess such device only:
  • on private property owned or immediately controlled by the person
  • on private property that is not open to the public with the express permission of the person who owns or immediately controls such property
  • while on the premises of a licensed firearms dealer or gunsmith for the purpose of lawful repair
  • while engaged in the legal use of the large capacity ammunition feeding device at a properly licensed firing range or sport shooting competition venue; or
  • while traveling to or from these locations, provided that the large capacity ammunition feeding device is unloaded and is enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container."
