When Gov. J.B. Pritzker was on the campaign trail, he promised to “lift up the standard of living” for Illinoisans by “putting dollars back in their pockets.” It didn’t take him long to break that promise.

Gotta love working from home. I drive very little so I mostly get a pass on gas tax/tolls, but yes it will no doubt hurt the middle class and poor.

And the people of this state keep voting in the tax and spend democrats to run the state, just mind numbing and comical at the same time.. I am just tired of the complaining about how the state is ran when we keep electing the same clowns.. and some point it’s not the politicians fault, it’s the people fault

wheres the protests for breaking up these corrupt union thugs that are literally using politicians to steal from others pockets to give them more money?

Default You really got to differentiate what the GOVERNMENT workers “unions” are doing vs “normal trade unions”...

I have a decent number of friends / family who are in traditional trade unions — those that cover the building trades or transit do have some staff to administer the union itself and a big part of that includes setting up the investments that ensure the pensions of retired workers are secure. The thing is that even those pensions are mostly categorized as “defined benefit” of the type that pretty guarantees a certain percentage of payouts based on what you “paid in” during your working years they still make adjustments to those benefits, especially when it comes to things like health care costs and such. It is flat out impossible to expect younger workers to completely “underwrite” the escalating costs of retirees and their families.

In contrast the scheme that Illinois government workers rely on, thanks to the the ridiculously strict interpretation of ‘shall not be diminished’ languages of the Illinois Constitution is that TAX PAYERS are on the hook not just for incompetent investment decisions of insiders but the runaway costs of healthcare AND the increasingly unjustifiable pension payouts of highly compensated workers in the system — no sane actuary would argue that somebody like a physician / med school professor in the system can be covered to the same percentage of “salary” that some low paid worker is — one has to laugh that the very same politicians making great noises over “income inequality” are completely blind to the FACT that there are tens of thousands of highly compensated Illinois governmental retirees perpetuating the sorts of wealth that no normal trade union worker would ever be capable of enjoying...

My gut says it is only a matter of time before not just the rank & file of Illinois trade union members but even the executives can no longer hold their tongues about the “abuses” that are baked in by the current Illinois government pension scheme...

The whole election process is shady. For example, in my district, there were two Democrats in the primary. The one that lost came out and said the one that won was given $$ by Mike Madigan which she turned down. The districts are drawn to support Democrats winning. It is much harder for a GOPer to win and even if they do, with the Democrats' supermajority, they get little done. Even Rauner couldn't do much except veto.
