Ive been wondering, since im trying to move to a small town with my partner, we want a simple traditional, small, family friendly town. I want to know my neighbors and my neighbors know me. I’ve been looking into Galena IL, if anyone lives there, tell me, is it a good tight close place?

The central core of Galena is absolutely overrun with tourists from spring through fall. The outlying areas are a little more quiet and traditionally "small town," but downtown and the surrounding area can be a complete zoo on weekends.

How about visit Galena and live over the border in IA? I'd avoid buying Real Estate in IL like the plague.

You might see it differently if you lived there.

There are two very nice, liveable areas in Galena, imo.

Up the hill and down the hill, i.e. the Grant Park Area.

While the town can be hectic, both these areas seem very nice and quiet. I would live in either one. Houses are reasonable.
Look on Realtor.Com and enter "Galena, Il" you can specify house age, price, bedrooms, etc.
Good luck.

I live in Galena. He is right. Overrun with tourists and a big smattering of the sanctimonious crowd. Can't wait to leave. You will never be fully accepted unless you are born, raised here and also perhaps your parents graduated from the local high school. You can join the club, do the work, tote the barge, lift the bale, but you will never be accepted as a Galenian. Ever.

Who cares... we are all Immigrants (Irish, German, Polish, Czech, etc.) anyway, unless Native American. Now days more state migration but same principle.
