On page 22 of the Aug 7 2017 issue of Time, there is a survey from the dating app "Hater" listing which if its "topics" users hate most in each state. For California they list fidget spinners, for New York Times Square and for Illinois they list "Biting Into String Cheese". You folks swallow it whole or what? Just curious.

I'm not from around here...but I personally pull it apart and eat it as strands. That's the way I learned to do it in the frozen tundra of North Dakota.

Biting into a stick of string cheese is for savages. I just eat it by peeling off individual strings.

Peeling string cheese is only appropriate if you're less than 6 years old. Otherwise, you bite into it like normal food.

Eureka, Caglee does not represent the vast majority of Illinoisians here and I would be he/she/other either lives in the big city or is a transplant.

they went through a lot of trouble assembling the string cheese into removable strings, would seem rude to these craftsmen and women not to eat it the way it was intended

String cheese was invented to entertain children while getting them to eat something supposedly healthy. Eat it however you like, or just get real, grown up cheese.

You shouldn't be eating string "cheese" if you're older than 6, period.
