Default H. N. Frederick and Sons, Peoria, Illinois

I have run across your posting inquiring about H. N. Frederick and Sons, in Peoria, Illinois. I am a great-great-grandson of Henry Nicholas Frederick, and I believe my great-grandfather Henry Albert Frederick was one of the sons associated with him in the harness business.

H. N. Frederick was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1827 and came with his parents to the United States in 1834. He eventually settled in Peoria, and his parents followed him soon thereafter. (His father was an upholsterer.) "In 1849 Mr. Frederick came to Peoria, and soon after engaged in the saddlery and harness trade, in which he built up a large and prosperous business. His parents also resided here until their death. At different periods he had various partners, in later years the partnership consisting of himself and his sons. In 1895 the company was incorporated under the State law, their place of business at 324 South Adams Street remaining unchanged for some thirty-five years." ((Newton Bateman, ed., Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois and History of Peoria County, v. 2 [Chicago and Peoria: Munsell, 1902], p. 506.) H. N. Frederick died in Peoria in 1901.
