I am in the middle of a statewide job search and I am being considered for a position located in Quincy. I noticed on the city-data website that Quincy has a rather high crime rate. There seems to be a large number of rapes for a town that size. Can someone shed some light on this situation? I need a new job, but I am unwilling to unnecessarily put my family at risk.

Quite frankly if I was worried crime in Quincy I would talk to the PD and/or County Sheriff, in this case Quincy PD and Adams County. I would not put great stock in stuff in internet sources as it is usually out of date by the time you read it. I suspect what you will learn is that in specific areas there is a higher crime rate due to drugs, gang affiliation and gang activity. It is a family affair. .

The most important questions you should ask is where is it, and what is the PD and/or Sheriff doing about it?

Largely in towns like Quincy, much crime IS isolated to specific socio-economic situations, but of course always be aware of your surroundings. Take linicx's advice, though if it makes you really uncomfortable. I'd call Quincy safe enough by my standards.
