I am interested to know if any high schools in Idaho have curriculum for Russian and Chinese. I grew in SE Idaho and in the 90's only Latin and Germanic languages were available. Is there a change in the language emphasis in Idaho since the 90's with all the recent Globlazation and economic impacts. Thanks. It would sure be a good idea! But with the swingeing budget cuts in educationthey'd be lucky to keep the classes they have.
For example, old school district (Bonneville Joint #91) are taking a $4.5M haircut this year. When they start talking about cutting buses then you know that language classes are definitely a back burner issue.
Wasatch Academy, a very old private school in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, offers Both languages, as well as Korean, and whatever the largest Indian dialect is. The school has a rotating language schedule, so one year has different languages than the next. French, Spanish, German & Latin are taught every year, I believe.
It's a very expensive school, but the graduates have to have proficiency in 2 languages as a graduation requirement.
