Anybody here live in Inkom, McCammon, Downey, Malad City, Soda Springs, Montpelier (or other) and have any comments to share about recent community developments in their town or neighboring spots?

Favorite trails, camping areas in southeast direction (up to 2 hours away from Pocatello)? Favorite mountain views, wildflower sites, fall color sites? In general what month range can one expect to get to trailheads into lands above 7,000 feet by normal driving effort and have normal hiking conditions (some melting snow is fine but not deep snow)?

Curious for local insights.

Don’t live in SE Idaho anymore, but did love the area to the southeast. Great small towns, nice scenery, little traffic. US30 was a main highway before the Interstates. Lava Hot Springs is very interesting. Soda Springs seems quite vibrant for a small town. Montpelier is not bringing up any strong memories, but I’m sure it has some qualities. After that you can go left or right to Utah or Wyoming. Compelling part of the west for sure.

Yeah, the location is great. Passed thru a few times but didn't dig back too deep in the forests (beyond a few places like City of Rocks) or the towns. May be a trip in next year.

Rivers and lakes would be interesting too as far as water recreation goes.

Quite the variety of water resources / recreation. Except for the Snake River, they are little known outside the region.

Plenty of canyons too.
