The natural vocal response includes a “Z” sound. While it isn’t correct, it is used by the majority. Problem is the sounds are quite similar and unless you are a linguist nobody really notices.

Many native Idahoans have a slight drawl, particularly in the rural parts. I still fight mine with some words to this day!

There were a lot of good slang examples in previous posts with phrases like jockey box, Rig, outfit, crick, etc..

Boise is more of a melting pot so these examples aren't quite as common there.

If you're in North Idaho and call it "Northern Idaho," everybody will know you're from elsewhere.

Echoing other comments here, this is no drawl or accent in Idaho that differs from the rest of the western states.

I've never heard it in Idaho, but there is indeed a slight drawl and accent in Oregon. It's just about gone extinct and most of the people you will encounter in Oregon were not raised there so they brought their own accents with them.
