I found a similar post that was made back in 2010. Zero responses...uh oh. I hope I fair better.

I'm the father of five young adults, ages 26-34, all with significant others. My wife and I would like to schedule a vacation for the entire family next July. We all like water and mountains, lol, and 3/4 of the group is very active. We'd like to rent a house for a week in one of those, "must visit" areas of Idaho, although I imagine many will fit the bill.

We will have family travel from several states from across the country. I'm looking for a place where we can all stay in one area like a ranch type place, cabins, one large house. Accommodations are important but not as much as natural beauty, water, mountains, etc., etc.

If you aren't particular to any part of the state, I would just start checking out VRBO or Air B&B and pick something that looks good to you. I am partial to the scenery in North Idaho. There are lots of places that fit the description you are looking for. I certainly wouldn't delay. Vacation rental occupancy is up 40% this year over last year and places are booking up quickly.

'Water & mountains'. Northern ID is certainly on that list. I can also think of places like Hebgen Lake, MT, which is very near to the MT/ID/WY border. But you will be in competition with Yellowstone NP visitors for space there in summer, with the added expense.

Do you want to be right on a lake? If not, then a place like Stanley ID has a maximum of natural beauty and has Redfish Lake and several other glacial lakes nearby. Or, stay at the lodge ON Redfish Lake. That lodge books up fast so if you want to be there, book it now.

What exact activities do you want on the lakes and in the mountains?

BTW, I'd look for early July rather than later, as fire & smoke season cranks up in mid-summer in the ID region.

Or maybe you could all stay home and not risk carrying covid germs all around and spreading them around the country as you go. At least until much closer to your time of departure when you can take a look around and see how things are going.

I agree. OP needs to supply more information before obtaining decent answers. As for traveling and upsetting some of the hiding locals....most of us have no problem with it. I travel all over this state as well as MT, WY, UT and just follow local ordinances. And I see out of state plates plates at stores around here as well as visiting neighbors. Not a problem.

McCall and the Stanley area should be at the top of your list.
