I'm from California. Moving to Moscow in a couple of months for college. It would be nice to get to know a little about the city from your experiences. Crime rate? Are the locals welcoming? Shops? Ect. What do I need to know? I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Crime rate? um, there really isn't one, lol. Although, they seem to have a random shooting spree every 5-10 years. It's very weird, and consistent. I live across the border in Pullman and spend a lot of time in Moscow...what do you want to know?

The area is bucolic-beautiful--The Palouse!

Downtown's charming. Lots of organic foods.

The people are North Idaho friendly.

S.

Moscow has always been a college town. You won't have any problems you wouldn't encounter in a typical small college town.

I really enjoyed the time spent at the U of I, years ago when I was a student there. The town is small enough to get to know some town folks, but is just large enough to have anything you might need.

And it is beautiful country, for sure. So is all the surrounding countryside for many miles in all directions.

Search for Moscow in title, in this forum and you'll get several dozen threads.
Particularly look for posts from Keim.

Thanks NW Crow! Glad to see I've left a (hopefully favorable) impression.

Been here 20+ years. Happy to answer any questions.

You might check out the Moscow Chamber of Commerce website. Maybe get a relocation packet. That will get you an image of what the area is like beyond the picture the school paints for students.

All in all, a nice little college town.

Winters and Spring are very nasty. I don't consider it habitable. Maybe ok for a vacation home if you have a winter home elsewhere. It's an ok place. Very small and very boring.
