I want to move to a small town in the area of CDA, but for me CDA is too big. Also, Sandpoint though beautiful is too expensive. So are there little towns that are adjacent to Sandpoint that are liveable? I have lived in a town of 2,000 or less so size doesn't really matter in this case, but it has to be a good town close to the lakes in the area. Any ideas on this? Also I am a licensed massage therapist in Las Vegas, is there a job market there for massage therapy or spas in general?

You might look into Hayden, ID. I believe the population is around 12,000 and it's right by a lake.

Hayden is very expensive also and right next to CDA..in fact it's hard to tell where Hayden ends and CDA begins.
Priest River, Laclede, Blanchard, and Spirit Lake are places you might want to look. However, I think making money as a massage therapist can be difficult. I had an acquaintance in Priest River who was a licensed MT who ended up mving to Spokane for better opportunies.

I don't need to make alot of money, just enough to help with bills. My husband drives a truck so he is gone alot, but he makes good money. I just have to pick up the little stuff like food and gas. Right now I practice in Las Vegas, and so to work at one of the ski lodge spas would be right up my alley. I was looking at sandpoint again, but do you think it is a nice community?

What is it like in bonners? How many people? I would really like to find a town where my kids can play outside without being afraid...you know? That is my biggest concern. How far of a drive to sandpoint is it?

Thanks for your reply by the way!

Spirit Lake is more reasonably priced compared to CDA and Sandpoint. There are schools and lakes nearby. There is also a decent sized grocery store in town but if you want a larger store like Walmart it is atleast a half an hour drive in good weather. I don't think you would have trouble finding a job as a MT here as spas are very popular. Sandpoint, although beautiful is more touristy and not a place I could see rasining children, in my opinion. Good luck!

A search didn't answer a question I have and really didn't want to start a new thread. So, I'm resurrecting this thread, since Hayden is mentioned several times in the posts.

My question is - does Hayden have a "downtown" in a traditional sense. An 'urban core' where you have a concentration of retail establishments, some local cafes, maybe the post office and city hall, etc. I'm not referring to strip malls and shopping centers. A city center that acts as the focus of the community. Or, is Hayden just a suburb of CdA?

Hayden has a city hall (it's the nicest looking building in Hayden) and a "town" but it's really not what one might call a charming downtown retail or business district. It has a post office, banks, a grocery, restaurants, etc but it doesn't have the aesthetics of Sherman Ave in CDA or 1st Ave in Sandpoint. It's definitely not a tourist destination.

IMO, it's more like a suburb of CDA. No separate town feel. At all.
