DanJaR and Mountain Rose - We will be in town Jan. 15th and 16th and we'd love to meet for coffee lunch or dinner - whatever works for each of you, we're completely flexible at this point. We're leaving the kiddos with my inlaws so I will have flexibilty that I haven't had in 2 years - kind of scary actually. I so appreciate the offer from you both! We'll have to stay in touch and try to set something up when it gets closer.

Rowecrow - I would be honored to have you live vicariously through us! I hope that we become a wealth of knowledge and can some day be as helpful to you as all of these other great folks on here. We aren't exactly sure where we are going to land either. Right now we're leaning toward Sandpoint but we're going to take the first 1.5 days we're in ID to explore the areas between Spokane and Sandpoint and hopefully the other side of the lake as well. A pretty aggressive plan as I understand that's a lot of ground to cover in a short period of time, but we're hopeful we can at least get a general idea of what areas we'd be most interested in. I'll keep you updated!

1.5 days? Was that a typo? Remember how short the days are in Jan.! Daylight is pretty much gone by 4 pm! Go to Google Earth and take a good look at specific areas, and decide a route between then so you can get as much out of the daylight as possible.

"The other side of the lake," like Hope and Clark Fork? In that case, leave an extra day for that drive. If you're going to look for work and possibly commute to Spokane, I'd advise against falling in love (which is easy! ) with the NW side of the lake--it's just going to be too long a commute.

I wish it was a typo Clark Fork! We have 3.5 days total away from the kiddos and we're going to cover as much ground as we can -- which I anticpate won't be much! No plans to work in Spokane (at least not at this point) so we're basically just making sure we like the general Sandpoint area and then looking to explore some of the outter areas so we have some knowledge of the other towns once we start the search for a rental property - which will more thank likely be done primarily online.

The goal is to come back in the early spring to finalize a lease and get things rolling with employment, then move late Spring / early summer.
That's my goal anyway - we'll see how it all pans out!!

Well, for a scouting trip you can actually cover a lot of ground in 3 days, even in January! And you might even have time for a quick spin to the EAST side of the lake . Don't know what I was thinking, "NW" !
