Hi everyone,

I am a 23yo male moving to Houston in a few months. I will be working in The Woodlands but I am looking at places to live in the heights, because I like the neighborhood feel and my girlfriend will likely be working in the med center. Any recommendations for neighborhoods within the heights? We like going on walks around the neighborhood, walking to restaurants, riding bikes, going to parks, going to low-key concerts and events.

We want to rent a home for privacy and quietness (doesn't need to be large, in fact i would be thrilled if it was just a 900-1100sqft bungalow plus a yard for a dog) and would like to know your thoughts on a reasonable rent. Also, what is the best way to find rental homes? So far, I have only looked on zillow. I will be making 86k pretax and she will likely make around 70k.

Thanks in advance! Can't wait to be in Houston!

Check out www.har.com. Use the Map Search function to draw around the Heights.

I can't speculate on rental prices in the Heights now, but my husband and I lived there before we were married 20 years ago, and made similar daily commutes (me to Greenspoint, him to the Med Center) and the Heights was a great location. You're on the right track looking there and I think you'll enjoy it. Good luck!

I would check out hotpads.com or har.com for rentals.

The closer to 45 you are, the easier your commute north would be. I used to live in the Norhill neighborhood and I loved it.

West of N. Main street is more walkable for restaurants. You can find great houses for cheaper on the East side of N. Main, but the neighborhood is not quite as nice.

For a 2br 1 bathroom, you can find something for around $2,000, which should fit into your budget with those salaries. If you want a 1 bedroom you could knock a couple hundred off of that.

Good luck!
