Particularly Mattress One and Mattress Firm.

Its like every where you look there will be one of these in a shopping plaza. The funny thing is NO ONE is ever in there. Why is this city flooded with these stores when no one ever is in there and they are steadily opening up new ones as I type this?

markup must be huge to justify a store that people rarely visit. No one is ever in those...

Imagine the margines necessary to have a profitable store.

A $5000 mattress can be purchased for under $1500 with some serious negotiating. Also you can negotiate a Tempur-Pedic mattress.

This sums it up.

Mostly run by Persians.

Margins are around 70-80%.

Very similar setup to all the rug stores.

Sell 1 a day and they are covered.

Know somebody in the biz.

I have never seen a store open new stores when the traffic doesn't even call for it. If they want a billboard then just get a billboard. Who opens up a store and hire employees just for advertisement?

You know a store with a ton of traffic that needs to open another one? Microcenter

I was actually out mattress shopping this weekend. And yes there are tons of mattress places everywhere on every corner...and on same street. We also get tons of sales ad in the mail. But I didn't even step foot in any Mattress Firm or Mattress One place.
