Should the Rockets be embarrassed they cut NBA sensation Jeremy Lin? | King Solomon's Mind | a Chron.com blog

Whole world taken with Knicks' star Jeremy Lin

This guy was in camp with the Rockets and they cut him. I'm starting to think that Daryl Morey is not the "genius" General Manager people make him out to be.

I'm shocked at where the Rockets are in the standings. Admittedly, I don't pay much attention to them, but to have them where they are in the standings with that motley crew ... somebody must be doing SOMEthing right.

Yeah but imagine how much better they would be with a player like that. Imagine how much more exciting it would be to have a player like that. The rockets are boring. You said it yourself your not paying attention to them.

The NBA did. When they denied the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers. Lin would have been the backup because Dragic was going to be traded. Rockets would have also signed Nene or at least Dalembert. If the Rockets end up in the lottery, hopefully Stern gifts them a top three pick. Such a rigged league.

That's still not a excuse for not seeing this guys talent. They should have cut Goran Gragic.

Let's not do that. No one saw this coming. The Knicks almost cut him, but due to injury, he was their last resort. And fwiw, he was the last player the Rockets cut. They saw the talent, but we had enough at that position. Lin is just getting the New York treatment right now. If he was doing this in a smaller market, the hype wouldn't he there.

The All Star game is Sterns apology.

That's part of being a good GM, finding those hidden gems. It doesn't matter now, he doesn't have to worry about getting cut any more.

Hidden gems in the late first or second round that the Rockets GM has drafted or traded for while their stock was low: Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry, Chase Budinger, Kyle Lowry, Chandler Parsons, etc. Morey is good at getting talent for value.
