Tirerack has great pricing, but most places will want your business and price match.

Some people may balk at this, but I have used 59 Tire a few times. Its a dank little place that does a ton of volume with car dealerships, etc. I got a set of nankang 245/45/17's for something like $320.

Now you can bad mouth one tire company over another, or moan about globalization, but these are dot approved tires, and I dont hesitate to drive on them for one second. Discount Tire grabbed market share with service, not because they give stuff away. You arent automatically getting a great price by walking into a Discount store.

I chose 59Tire because the owner spoke intelligently to me over the phone, and I was impressed with the service I got. I called another similar store(A1), and the person on the phone was rude, and couldnt intelligently communicate with an english speaker, so there you go.

Thanks! Those are exactly the tires I need. Does the price include the labor?

some mom and pop auto shops don't mind having tires shipped to their shop from tirerack, but you need to let them know ahead of time. just ask them first if it is ok. a few years ago, i had tirerack ship some tires to a local mom/pop shop in alief and they mounted/balanced all 4 Kumho tires(235/50/17) for $20. nowdays, i just go to discount tire.

Oh, wait. When changing all 4 tires, you can save a little more, when buying tires from online stores (also ebay). Surprisingly, Discount Tire sells tires off ebay too!

The cons of buying tires online is:
- you would have to haul them and ask someone to mount them (I did it with Walmart, could not be cheaper)
- you may not have an extended insurance

So, if you are looking for an easy way, just go to Discount Tires during the week (it is pAcked on weekends) and install them.

I would try TIREMAX of North America -- America's Choice for Tires. They will usually try to beat Discount Tires pricing.

.

Not true. I have Tire Rack drop ship them to Discount Tire. They have no problem with that.

One thing to consider when buying tires is the fuel efficiency rating. Unfortunately there is no standardized rating system but you can check performance reviews. The tires you choose may vary 5% - 10% in fuel economy. That cheaper tire might cost you many times over in fuel over the life of the tire. The stock tires are pretty good in fuel efficiency since the manufacturers want to bump up the rating. Just food for thought.

Those stores creep me out. I would think they could have tried a little harder to not make it look like such a blatant rip off.

Coming up next, a general merchandise mega store, we'll call it.. Bullseye, or maybe Gen-Mart
