I would agree...we saw one yesterday too while hiking. They are really common around Harris County.

Thanks! Feel better about it now. Seeing how Oyster creek runs by out back I reckon I should be grateful it's the first one we've seen in 3 years. Still glad the dog saw it first.

That snake is a bull snake.

I agree, it looks like a bull snake (which can get very big).

They'll also try to mimic a rattlesnake when threatened (which often leads to them getting killed by humans).

They eat vermin, so they are good for keeping away rats, mice, etc.
