I 'inherited' this heavy, wrought iron patio set (there's also a bouncy rocker type chair) that I will need cushions for.
Any suggestions as to where I might find some decent quality, reasonably priced cushions for these pieces? I was pretty shocked at how much good cushions are. I did order one set from Wayfair (Sunbrella and 5 inch thick) that look like they may work, but one set was $135 and I'm going to need 4 more sets (if the one works). Gulp. Pricey! My sister suggests that since I didn't pay for the furniture, I should just bite the bullet and buy them. They will be under an awning on the deck.

My parents inherited a set of wrought iron patio furniture and still owned the same pieces 70 years later. They had custom cushions made by a local upholsterer a few times over those many years. I know they were expensive at the time, but they took very good care of them: stored indoors, in the garage or shed when not in use. Each set lasted a long time. The reality is, just like the awning, nothing will last forever if its left outdoors. If you live near water with recreational boating (beach, river, or lakefront), you might check with boat canvas suppliers. They will have easy access to tougher weather resistant fabrics and can buy the stock wholesale. They may do custom upholstering for boat seating. Also check with auto upholsterers. Auto seats need to take a lot of abuse. Those options would obviously be made to fit your pieces.

We had 22 single seat cushions made with Sunbrella two years ago and they were around 100/cushion. Considering that the old ones were 15+ years old. There are similar fabrics available but none less expensive.

These are great options for me to check out, Parnassia.....I will see what I can come up!

Backstory - the three pieces were in my neighbors driveway with a free sign on them. I was like, what??? It looked like wrought iron to me - and it is - and it's heavy! It took me three trips to get it the short distance to my house because I could hardly get it into the car. My neighbors told me it belonged to the wife's grandparents, so maybe even from the 40's. Since we put a new deck on the house, and I will purchase or have good cushions made, this was a perfect set.

Wow!!! I never knew these were so expensive. Went to one place to have a bench type cushion made for a small divan I have on my front porch and (foam and cover) would have cost me more than the divan itself!

I'll need five bottom cushions and 5 back cushions. 3 sets for the three seater because I'm not sure I can find one long bottom/back set for that piece, unless I get that custom made. We shall see.

Good cushions are not cheap.

We once bought an entire patio set for less than the cost of cushions.

One lady I watched on YouTube had her outdoor cushions covered with the same material that is used on boats. That way they are way easier to keep clean and will last 20-25 years (obviously if they are under cover b/c I think you are in the PNW whereas she is in Palm Springs). I think she bought the material and took it to someone to have it customized (but, she already had the cushions that were previously sunbrella or something else).

I have metal chairs and a metal table (not wrought iron) and I just use them without cushions (completely comfortable). Oh, and I do have the unused sunbrella cushions for them stored in the garage. Every 2-3 years I have to spray paint them. I purchased them in 2002 at Target (the whole set for $200). So, I got my money's worth out of them. If I cannot paint them and clean them up any longer I might need to actually buy the wrought iron ones (go thrifting for that)... b/c outdoors... who cares...

I know!!! that's why I decided I may as well buy the best I can afford since I paid nothing for this vintage patio set. Gonna have to bite the bullet.

I'm in VT. Summers are pretty good here and our deck is new and covered, although if it rains from south to north we get some rain. I won't let it rain on the cushions. We spend most of the summer out there so it will be worth it to pay for good cushions. I'm researching marine upholstery in my area now. We do have Lake Champlain and many folks have boats. Custom though may be out of my price range.
And if I spend that money, the cushions will be stowed away for the winter.
