We have an L-shaped LR/DR combo and a hallway easily visible from the LR. Can anyone give me tips on how to coordinate wall paint colors?

Coordinate them with what... your existing furniture?

Most people paint an open floor plan all one color.

I meant coordinate with each other... but if it's all one color that doesn't matter.

Check out these or similar links - I like the benjamin moore one better. You can use different shades of the same color.

I will also say that paint colorS should be a misnomer for an open floor plan - it will look most spacious and play up the openness with a single color. If you really want to bring in additional color, I would limit it to an accent wall where you'll have a clear demarcation of the wall at the corners.

With an L shaped room, you probably would want to paint it one color, unless you wanted to designate one area in a special way.

One thing to consider--paint the room all one pretty color, and paint one wall in an accent color. This could be a brighter version of the wall color, or a different color.

Use the B.Moore site to choose colors. Say you like the color White Sand by B.Moore. (You can choose this from the color gallery on the B.Moore site.) You choose the color and then you get this:

white sand 964 Paint - Benjamin Moore white sand Paint Color Details

which shows you accent colors!

If you want to designate, say a dining area with a different color, then you need to choose two colors that look well together, and where they come together on a flat wall, run narrow molding down on top of the paint line between them.
If that is what you want to do, then I think the easiest way is to choose a lighter or brighter version of the main color. Many years ago we did this with wall paper. We papered the dining area, using molding to designate the beginning of a new "room." But I'll never paper another wall ever again!

We do a lot of white ceilings, medium to light wall color, and white trim. Seems to be a timeless touch here.
Might want to research the effects of color on a room and people. Grey will make the rooms depressing, green the most relaxing, yellow and light beige the warmest.

Interesting. I don't find grey to be depressing at all. My favorite color in our house is Knitting Needles from Sherwin Williams. The room.

Agreed. My whole house is

Sherwin-Williams Paints, Stains, Supplies and Coating Solutions

Not necessarily my first choice for the specific shade, but I knew I wanted gray. I only had a handful of choices from the builder.
