Yes metsym is reversible without drugs. Could be gut is involved, as it is involved in many things. But metsym is ALSO caused by high refined carb intake, and not enough physical exercise. The mitochondria in muscle cells get overwhelmed by too much glucose, so the cells start to resist insulin (insulin is what brings glucose into cells).
Insulin resistance, as most people know, is what causes metsym, pre-diabetes, and type 2 diabetes. And those are the major causes of the common modern lifestyle diseases.
To reverse metsym, diet should be very low carb for a while, and there should be enough moderate exercise.
(By the way, I call it metsym instead of ms, to avoid confusion with multiple schlerosis the autoimmune disease).
Taking statins for metsym makes NO SENSE AT ALL, and actually can make it worse because it raises blood glucose.
About half of Americans probably have or are heading for metsym. Why aren't MDs considering this before prescribing statins? I think it's partly ignorance, and partly the drug industry marketing.
