Ignorance truly is bliss...the people who refuse to even check out the movie confirm that.
I know Michael Moore is controversial, but this particular movie is an eye opener.
And that is one of the many reasons why the USA will never have a better healthcare system and the same threads will reappear on this thread and you'll all still be arguing 50 years from now on how to make it better..
I don't care to refute any endless list of youtubes. Healthcarefirst is here in the US because he/she has thought for a while it's a better place to live and raise a family. After all - there's the lower cost of living - the better salary - the swimming pool - the better weather - etc. - etc. Regardless of any perceived deficiencies in our health care system.
You have never ever been in Scotland - yet somehow think it's superior to the US without having set foot on its soil. I've been in Scotland. The rural areas are amusing in a rural kind of way (lots of sheep) - as long as you have appropriate weather gear (even in September). The cities - not so much (except in famous tourist areas).
And I'm sure you know zip about Scotland. Perhaps even about one of the most important issues facing Scotland now - the scheduled vote on independence next year. Much less what it might mean. Immigration is a big issue. IIRC - population in Scotland has been falling/been about static over the years - and it's kind of desperate to get new people to move there - however. Perhaps because it can't get any white British person (almost 100% of the population there - it's almost totally non-diverse racially - doesn't have beans in the way of Muslims or Jews either) to deal with its increasingly elderly population in adult diapers. Since white Brits won't do it - perhaps aides from Africa will have to do (keeping in mind that most Brits I've met are more narrow minded racially than most rednecks in the US).
Note that 25%+ of people in Scotland are > 65. Makes Florida look like a child's camp.
Anyway - healthcarefirst wants to return to Scotland - bye <waving>. Ditto with you or any other member of your family (although I always suggest that people spend time in a place before they decide to move there). Robyn
Some pretty desperate nasty, hateful stuff, Robyn.

I sure hope your wrong. It has got to end sometime. I had hoped it would be in my lifetime.
Make sure you watch the other two videos.
His last sentence in the first video says it all to me. That's why trying to enlighten people here in the US is so important, and what keeps us from achieving universal care. The politicians will never willingly do it on our behalf.
If you like I can point you to video's and a PBS special on him and his visits to other coutries.
And there we have it. I'm giving this man a standing ovation Why is it that such a logical presentation of the facts seem to go right over the heads of some people??? There are intelligent people on this forum, why can't they see the sense in Universal healthcare, its good points and its shortcomings , for the future success of this nation and to uphold a sense of human decency and fundamental human right to be well ? Most of the the countries around the globe are at least trying to do just that on some level.
Please do point me towards his visits to other countries

As a Canadian, here is the most basic fault in the US medical care system , that I can see
The rich can BUY their way to the front of the line for care. That includes the politicians that you elect.
Until that changes, to a care system that is fair and EQUAL, for ALL Americans, nothing will improve.
When a State Senator is found in a hospital room , lying next to a union welder, or a teacher, then things will have been changed, and for the better, in my opinion.
Having a personal, vested interest, in maintaining the status quo, is the biggest stumbling block in your medical care BUSINESS. No politician, of any political stripe, wants to take the chance that he or she MIGHT be told..................sorry, we are full, head on down to "country general " and take your chances, bud.
As I said at the beginning, I'm a Canadian and have been here all my life, so I do know what I am talking about, when it comes to the Canadian health care system. We love our professional hockey players here, but even they have to stand in line, for treatment. The same goes for our politicians, and corporate executives. As the paramedics here say... " The worst go first, the least go last. " Its called triage, and we apply it to the system as a whole. Just because a guy is a big time lawyer, he isn't going to be seen ahead of the 12 year old kid who was just hit by a truck, who is a code four, life and death case.
How many times, in the US, have you heard of some B list star being whisked into the hospital, for treatment of a minor injury ? My point exactly.
Hmmmm. I'm waiting for your agenda's other shoe to drop.
Let me guess:
Outlaw fast food.
Impose a fat tax on those who don't eat healthily.
Impose a tax on those restaurants, of any type, which don't have "healthy" menus.
Make pariahs out of the obese as has been done with smokers (except marijuana users. After all, marijuana is "natural".)
How'm I doing?
Although I agree with all of the above (crap food should be taxed to high heaven), that's not the theme of the documentary. It focused on the insurance industry and looked at healthcare systems in other countries that actually give a damn about their poor and sick
When people of poverty spend less time hoarfing down cigarettes, boozing and drugging it up... prescription and illegal, then only having enough money to feed their kids Happy Meals, and yet are crowding the emergency rooms on a given Friday night across America, then I'll better understand socialized medicine.
I have a great job with great healthcare benefits and I avoid doctors and hospitals... oh and pharmacies.
Why don't Michael Moore do a documentary on that story?
Meanwhile, back here in the good ole USA, we'll programme sic! program our theatres sic! theaters to aire as we see fit.
My dad moved from County Leitrim Ireland to America out of poverty and boredom. Scotland is a place that looked down upon the lowly Irish and catered to the influential British. But I digress.
Go to almost any emergency room in any urban area on a Friday night across America and watch the poor and sick being neglected. Michael? Got them cameras rolling?
I am on Medicare, but have always worried for my son who has had to buy individual policies. I have talked to him about moving to a different country if things were to get too bad here. Thanks for the offer . I hear Scotland is very beautiful. I have not been there, but my brother visited the UK and said he really liked Scotland. He said the Pub life at night there was a real hoot, and gave them the opportunity to meet the locals.
The American health care system is the most bizarre, complicated, & expensive in the World. Was it designed by Rube Goldberg? We pay twice as much per person as any other wealthy country; but leave 30-40 million Americans uninsured, while they have all provided health care for everyone at way lower cost, for decades.
I can already hear the cries of "Socialism". Right, Canada, Germany, Australia, Japan, & the Swiss are all living in some kind of Socialist nightmare, b/c they all have affordable health care for everyone.
My reading of it is that here in the US is that most "Conservatives" have such hatred towards the poor, & the lower working class, that denying them health care makes them "feel good". They somehow have to prove that they're so much "better" than those "losers", that denying them health care, & Food Stamps, is their biggest Priority. (Besides endless tax breaks for the Rich. Oh, & see the infamous Romney "47%" rant).
Of course we're always ready to spend (& borrow) Trillions of $$ to bomb & invade 3rd World Countries. It's all kind of "sick", if you ask me......
