Here in Colorado Springs, Halloween has been discontinued in schools and neighborhoods for the most part. Some schools have done character day, fall festival, etc. Do the schools/neighborhoods there still dig Halloween? What about trick-or-treating? I have this romantic vision of VA with some Halloween decor on houses and trick-or-treating in neighborhoods. There are only a couple neighborhoods here that people flock to for treating.
What about pumpkin and apple farms?
Craft fairs?

I can't wait to get out there and experience the east coast!

Yes, we celebrate Halloween very well. We do our fall scernery in the yard with the hay/pumpkins and stuff and some really get into the halloween decor. There are places that have hay rides, the Jaycees have the haunted house and the schools always have some type of function. Kids still trick or treat, it just depends on the kid population in the neighborhoods. Our kids a few years ago are now getting older and doing other things. Last year we didn't have the kids we did the year before.

You should be very happy then. South Hampton Roads has many Halloween happenings. Hunt Club Farms does a big Halloween shindig every year. There are numerous pumpkin patches that also offer hay rides. Many neighborhoods go all out for trick or treaters. We love it!

Yeah, Halloween is always a fun time of year for me here in Va Beach. Though I don't trick-or-treat anymore, I usually go to a Halloween party of some sort. That seems to be a big deal among my age group (college student/early 20's). That really sucks no one gets into it out there. There's always something going on here that time of year. Seems like New Years and Halloween are two of the most widely celebrated...for me, at least.

I noticed the difference in trick-or-treaters this past year too. My guess is most of the kids in my neighborhood are growing up and not many new families with young children have moved in.

There are many fall fairs in HR. I am very fond of the one in Poquoson Seafood festival- it takes place in the woods. All the crafters line up under trees and at night it is lite by strung lights thru the trees. Also the food is awesome!!

Halloween is big around here for all age groups, some of the schools/curches etc really dont do "halloween" or call it that but they have something like a harvest festival.......Unlike many places across the country we still do Halloween on Oct 31st. So many places across the US have moved to a Sat afternoon or done away with it all together......The weather is normally pretty nice that time of year so you dont have to worry about the cold weather like many places across the country. The number of kids will vary by how many are in your neighborhood, some nieghborhoods have very few kids and some have tons, plus you have many of the local malls etc that will pass out candy also........I think this area was in a lull for a few years where you didnt see a lot of people really go all out for Halloween or Christmas, but I have noticed over that past 2-3 years most people have really started to go all out in decorating their homes again

I live in a neighborhood full of kids, and received 3 trick or treaters last year. Practically noone in the neighborhood does anything at all. Then again, I live in a poor neighborhood. Guess you cant afford lawn balloons when youre struggling to put food on the table.

I drive through Fairfield in Virginia Beach often, and they always seem to have a large number of houses decorated though. I figure as long as you stick to the higher end neighborhoods, youll find plenty of merriment.

Halloween is popular here, even though there is a large Christian prescience.

I barely saw any trick or treaters in my neighborhood last year, but I live in a townhouse community. Like Randomdude said, you go to the more affluent neighborhoods and you will most likely see many, many more. Halloscream at Busch Gardens is awesome that time of year, probably one of my favorite things to do here.
