My husband has had both high & low end guns. He currently shoots 25 yards at an indoor range. Right now he uses non-targe guns for target shooting. He's into accuracy and has been researching to find which make/model to buy.
Again, he wants a 45 acp for shooting 25 yards, target sights, and very very accurate.
Can anyone suggest what they would buy (any price range) since I'm trying to help research.
Match grade kimber or the like. He could buy a base 1911 and build it or have someone build it the way he wanted into a match grade target gun. Accuracy doesn't mean squat if it isn't the same gun you use for protection, however, unless he is in competition and it doesn't appear from your post that he is.
Kimber or Wilson Combat (pricey). I carry a Kimber in PA (licensed of course) and it's out of the box with a match barrel, and is very well machined and assembled.

Oh, god where does one start?
Kimber and Springfield Armory make very nice low end mass produced 1911 with Kimber's Team Match II and Springfield's Trophy Match coming in at $1535 to $1200 respectively, both are still a very accurate 1911s.
These pistols will come with unreal accuracy that unless your husband is a national caliber shooter, you will need a bench rest to fully test. All of these pistols are in the $2000 - $2,500 range.
A few have mentioned Wilson but personally, their competition target model is hitting the mind $4000.00 mark and I just don't believe that they are $2,000 to $3,000 better than any manufacture listed.
ovcatto, thanks so much for your input. My husband has owned both Ed Brown, Wilson & Les Baer for carry (used them for the range also). He's using his Dan Wesson Valor right now until his buys a target only gun.
I just saw where Stoeger is making a cougar now in 45 ACP. I can't testify about their target accuracy but I imagine its reasonably priced around $400.
If you run into a good Model 70 Colt Gold Cup at a gun show or shop, they will shoot better than most people can appreciate. Worth noting that Gold Cups (at least some of them) come with a lighter recoil spring, so they are not really appropriate for "full house" ammo use. I load 3.5 g Bullseye and the H&G 68 type 200 g cast bullet, it's accurate, does not kick much, economical to load (assuming you can find primers).

Well hell Barb!
I'm not about to recommend a weapon to a guy and gal who can afford to CARRY them kind of pricey sidearms, you got to know way more than me!
But you are very welcome for any meager help that I may have given.
