For a while, the Anti's were touting the number 80%. They said, 80% of the country wanted more gun control and wanted expanded back ground checks. Like any fish story where the fish continue's to grow with each telling, President Obama has recently said that it is 90%, not 80%. He has stated that 90% of the NRA members are in favor of back ground checks.
Somebody on this forum mentioned that it would be nice if the NRA got some new internal numbers. According to this article, they have.
I hope his budget comes closer to "Real Numbers" than what all of his speeches do.
The whole thing is, Americans don't like Universal BG checks, they like the "idea" of universal BG checks. Hell, I like the idea and if it were enforcable on a practical level, I'd even support it. Therein lies the problem though, there is absolutely no way to enforce such a law without implermenting a national registry, wich is worthy of opposition for a number of reasons.
This current idea or "compromise" they are floating around though just may be workable. Expanding the checks to private sales at gun shows seems doable, and I don't see any real reason to oppose it other than it gets the anti's that much closer to what they really want. Again though, how does it work? You can't force a dealer to do them if they refuse. Are they going to set up an ATF booth at every gun show? If so, who pays for that?
The linked site is one of the more inflammatory sites on the web but this story could be more true than not since those who have mental problems (treatable problems) may loose their right to own guns.
This quote speaks volumes; "I think that first and foremost, it stems from a flawed law that was passed so quickly without forethought on how something would be implemented."
Could Prescription Meds Result in Gun Confiscation ??
For many of us this is question we don't want answered. To be able to say that your meds make it illegal for you to own a gun the current HIPPA laws would have to be set aside so police and state officials could decide if your med mean you lose your guns.
The teacher should be fired immediately. I mean, this is almost as bad as promoting aspects of certain religions in the classroom. Check that, it IS as bad.
I hate to see what this country will look like when I'm an old man with "educators" like this preparing our future leaders.
There are plenty more poor teachers where that last one came from School: Americans Don
