What ski resorts are located on roper mountain? How often do avalanches occur? We are considering moving down from New York and would like to purchase a house on a mountain top.

Do some research. Roper Mountain is a hill. No snow. Just a science center with a telescope and planetarium.

Sugar Loaf is the most popular ski resort, and avalanches only occur towards the end of winter. Most residents vacate their homes for a couple of weeks around that time.

It is a big beautiful mountain with the best sking that Greenville has to offer. However, avalanches do occur daily even in the hot Summer months. You probably could get a great house on the top of the mountain though. I hear prices are extremely cheap! I know several Real Estate Agents in the area that could help you find exactly what you are looking for. Just let me know

And for Heaven's sake, be careful of the Yeti.

There are several really nice ski resorts there, ranging from affordable condos (great if you want to spend most of your time on the slopes) to higher-end destination-type accommodations (perfect for a nice romantic getaway). As for the skiing itself, you'll find some easy green runs all the way up to some of the most challenging black diamonds you will see. Great views from up there!

The cool thing is that you are only a 5 minute drive from downtown Greenville!

I can't believe all you people- leading folks on like that. It's South Carolina, fer cryin' out loud! The snow melted weeks ago. I mean- How gullible do you think people are? We haven't had fresh powder on Roper since February.

The ski patrol is diligent about setting off charges each morning during the season for avalanche control. So it probably isn't wise to buy a home too close, especially if you have a lot of breakable knick-knacks.

Be sure to acclimate yourself the first day you ski on Roper Mtn. - the thin air at that altitude...
