ESPN officially announced the other day that the 2008 Bassmaster Classic (sort of the world series for professional bass fishing) will be held on Lake Hartwell Feb. 22-24, and hosted by Greenville in its downtown region.
For someone that's been an avid bass fisherman for over 20 years (i.e. me) and is hoping to move to the Greenville area sometime this summer, this is just way too cool!
I follow this sport because my brother used to fish what was once called the "Red Man" tournament series (sorta the Minor Leagues of Bass Fishing) and my sister-in-law was a Bassin' Gal (and even won a couple of tournaments here and there).
It's hard to believe this is only the second time that the Classic will have been held in South Carolina, especially considering how many lakes there are here (technically, the Lake Wylie tournament in 2005 was hosted by Charlotte, NC).
This should be one very cool event. The tournament will be over on Lake Hartwell. Weigh-ins will be at the Bi-Lo Center (Arena) in Downtown Greenville. The expo will be at the Carolina First (Convention) Center in Greenville. The women's and junior's tournament events will be on Lake Keowee, too.
Too cool!!! I can't wait to see if they land some quality fish. I've been struggling in the upstate lakes for years. Maybe a close eye on this tournament will tell some secrets?
I do not know how I explain my excitement level with the Bassmaster Classic returning in 2015 with Cabela's open.
