Thats the amount of incentives being requested. The actual cost of the distribution center is about $400 million.

Publix's North Carolina stores are served by its Dacula, Georgia, distribution center. That distribution center has high velocity, low velocity, dairy/boxed meat, produce, and frozen food warehouses.

The speculated Greensboro distribution center could serve stores in North Carolina and Virginia. The Dacula, Georgia, distribution center could continue to serve stores in Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

This is, as the OP's title suggested, not a done deal:

"In a written statement to the News & Record, Publix suggested the decision is still tentative. “We are currently evaluating several potential sites, including a site in Greensboro. As with all potential sites, we are in the process of conducting our due diligence, which does include pursuing available incentives.”"

And in news sure to drive a certain poster into a spasm of hyperbolic tongue washing, the site that Publix is considering is owned by none other than Roy Carrolll!

I just hope Publix hires its own contractor to build it...it will take Roy 10 years to do it.

I wonder what other potential sites Publix is evaluating, and if it is considering more than one additional distribution center should it expand into the District of Columbia and Maryland.

Marty Kotis is building a grocery store nearby in his planned shopping center at the I-840/I-785 and Hwy 70 interchange so you never know. The loop has really made that site attractive for the Publix distribution center and I would expect to see further development, particularly residential. For decades Greensboro has been growing west which is why downtown seems to be on the east side of town. Now I think we will see the city start growing east. If the city grows east beyond the loop away from downtown the same distance it has in the west, the city will be over 20 miles across east to west. The city has already done some satellite annexations that for out and Greensboro water and sewer extends close to the Guilford / Alamance County line. Eventually Greensboro and Burlington city limits will tounch.

There will be a sheetz gas station and grocery and probably apartments over there that kotis is building and he said there's space for 1,000,000 sqft of shopping and other things that could be developed later. So yea I think it's time to expand the city out east guilford county. Between the kotis site and the carrol site is really nothing. 1,0000's of acres that could eventually be developed. But let's wait until publix actually picks us before we
Go crazy.

I think the key is attracting good paying jobs on that side of town. As upper income people move in we will start seeing higher end retail there.
