Unfortunately, the crime is what is ruining it for the Macon Mall, not the stores. Who wants to pay their extortion-level rent when the only people you will see don't spend money; they just hang out and cause trouble.

Crime used to be much worse at the Macon Mall back in the late 90s and early 2000s when I was a teen. It was normal to see gangs roaming the mall, and there was a movie theater adjacent to the mall that was a magnet for negative behavior.

On weekends, The Mall parking lot basically turned into a hang out for thugs after 6 or 7 PM.

In recent years, the mall has beefed up on police/security. They won't let teens just stand around in groups, dont allow certain clothing, and they dont even let you wander around unless you're a certain age. I still look pretty young for my age even though I'm in my 20s, and they've carded me at the door entering the mall from the food court area on several weekends.

If anything, the Macon Mall provides for a much safer and peaceful shopping experience now than it did years ago when the newer wing actually was occupied.

Seriously, it's much better. I remember when gangs used to roam 20+ deep EACH, just hanging around, and you couldnt hardly enter the Mall from the food court area because of it being flooded with kids (and even some adults) just hanging outside with their gang looking for trouble.

You dont see that any more.

There's a door from the food court to the mall? Wow, it has been a long time!
