My mom told me there are some areas in North Georgia where apartment rent is around 600 a month. I dont know if that is true. I am a registered behavior technician and work in mental health. I also plan to get my masters. I dont want to live in Atlanta and would appreciate recommendations in North Georgia.

Here is a link to what appears to be at least a decent quality apartment complex in Cornelia where the rents start as low as $548/month currently:

Fairway Management, Inc. - Peaks of Cornelia

Cornelia is located just off of the junction of US Highway 23/Georgia State Route 365 and US Highway 441 in Habersham County in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Northeast Georgia.

Here is a to what appears to be at least a decent quality apartment complex in Clarkesville where the rents start as low as $545/month currently:

Fairway Management, Inc. - Sutton Terrace

Clarkesville is located west off of US Highway 23/441 in Habersham County in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Northeast Georgia.

Areas like Clarkesville and Cornelia probably are about as far south in North Georgia as one can go before the rents get much higher.

Wow, $545, that's a steal, compared to rent amounts in ATL suburbs. Everywhere I look, is in the $1-2,000's. :*(

Plus, I would love to move back to the Habersham county area, it's gorgeous up there.

I've been looking online for apartments in northern GA, planning to move next year. I'm shocked at how high the prices are, even in the sticks. But they are all large complexes owned by corporations and not family owned. Some are listed as "Income Restricted." Does that mean welfare housing? Section 8 housing? Retirement housing? Illegals?

You can explore areas like Athens, Gainesville, or Dalton in North Georgia for affordable rent options. These areas offer a variety of amenities and are not too far from Atlanta.

I spotted bungalows with two or three bedrooms for $750 or $800. None had heat or air conditioning! How is that legal? Also the photos showed a totally empty house with no refrigerator, stove or washer, with the caption they'd be installed with the first month's rent and deposit. That signaled to me this was a bad part of town. Remember the old saying 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.'

Also there are quite a few that are just bedrooms for rent in a house and you get your own bathroom.

The major apartment search websites bring up the same properties, all higher rents. The cheaper apartments must be advertised somewhere else but I don't know where. Sometimes I 'drive' down a street via Google Maps in a nice neighborhood and if I spot an apartment building I will Google that specific address. Sometimes a management company will pop up with info. Tedious to do, though.

With more and more people dying from the Covid vaccines and boosters, there should be more vacant apartments. 40% excess deaths with more to come, according to experts.
