This doesn't make sense. OP sounded like an advocate for Houston. Texans are so defensive.
Exactly. Until I started reading this board, I never even really thought about Texas. It's just... there. I honestly do not get the obsession here with that state. And I'll never get over them giving us Ted Cruz which is a whole different issue but... yeah.
As long as fossil fuels are still alive and kicking then losing Houston would be a huge and devasting blow to the energy sector. It would put a dent in our innovation capacities in general especially in relation to space exploration. I don't think Houston will ever totally go away (Galveston and Texas City is another story due to climate change) but a warming climate and increased heavy rain events have and will continue to cause grief for Houston residents so I wonder what the future effect will be on its growth.

I’ve lived in Texas for 8 years and I’m with you on Ted Cruz. He sucks.
Cities like Philly and New York would be the same. Houston's economy has virtually no effect or influence on the Philly area. We're not commuting to Houston for jobs so...
